Chesapeake Bay Week Film Festival - Ticket Package
04/07/2025 - 04/16/2025

Celebrate Chesapeake Bay Week with a special film festival, presented by the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in collaboration with Maryland Public Television. Dive deep into the Bay's rich history through the inspiring stories of the people who call it home. Throughout this special event, enjoy advanced screenings alongside panel discussions and expert talks, as this series promises to entertain, educate, and ignite your passion for this treasured waterway.

This package includes tickets to three events:

  1. Mon. April 7, 2025, 5:30pm: Eatin’ the Chesapeake Film Screenings & Tasting prepared by Garden & Garnish
Explore new and old Chesapeake food traditions on screen and on your plate! First, watch Eatin’ Blue Catfish: Chesapeake Style and meet cooks, consumers, biologists, and businesses working to address the invasive Blue Catfish through the kitchen. Then, learn about varied food traditions from German home-kitchen cooks and southern Maryland farms to Eastern Shore chicken-fry kitchens and Smith Island supper tables in Eatin’ the Chesapeake: The Five Feasts.

During the screenings, enjoy a tasting plate inspired by the films courtesy of Garden & Garnish. The menu will include Oysters Rockefeller Dip with French bread croutons, Baked blue catfish cakes with okra, scallions, & roasted red peppers, and Ham rolls stuffed with cabbage, kale & onions.

  2. Thurs., April 10, 5:30pm: Resurrecting Poplar Island Screening & Discussion
Poplar Island’s ongoing restoration is the result of an extraordinary collaboration among state and federal agencies. Material dredged from nearby shipping channels is the foundation for what has become a stunning ecosystem, populated by an ever-growing list of species. Researchers monitor the environment year-round, studying the diamondback terrapins, endangered shorebirds, and striped bass that take shelter in the pristine wetlands.

The film explores the island’s past and present–and what success here could mean for the future of the other disappearing islands in the Bay and beyond. Resurrecting Poplar Island was produced in cooperation with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science

  3. Wed., April 16, 2025, 5:30pm: Chesapeake Rhythms Screening with filmmakers Tom Horton, Dave Harp, and Sandy Cannon-Brown
Chesapeake Rhythms chronicles the essential rhythms of Chesapeake Bay: wind, tides, and migrations of tundra swans, monarch butterflies, shorebirds, and eels. These ancient migrations, annual rituals repeated for millennia, weave a tapestry that enriches our lives and oblige Chesapeake dwellers to maintain our hugely important way station in this vaster scheme of comings and goings. The film conveys the beauties and mysteries of the fundamental, elemental Chesapeake. This screening will be followed by a discussion with filmmakers Tom Horton, Dave Harp, and Sandy Cannon-Brown.
